Piazza Dei Miracoli (PISA) & a square dominated by four great religious edifices: the duomo, leaning tower, the biggest baptistery in the whole of italy, the camposato. In 1987 the whole square was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
leaning tower of pisa : the ancient seven wonders of the world ~ built in year 1173.. it has seven floors, 296 steps, no lifts... it tooks 177 years to built this tower. not that they are working slow but they stop in between because when they built the 3rd floor, it started to sink on one side because the soil was not good & also because of war between genoa, luca & florence.
but this turn out to be a good sign because after 100yrs, the soil began to harden up & when they continue construction, the tower was actually tilting. they tried many many ways to compensate, that's why they tried to built one side taller than the other, with one side 296 steps & the other 294 steps. anyway.. that did happen & it started to lean.........
